📅 Process overview

BCG's recruiting process typically consists of 2 rounds. Most candidates complete the process within 3–6 weeks of their first interview.

Step 1
Application & Resume Screen
GPA, school, and experience filters vary by office. Strong cover letters and internal referrals significantly improve pass rates. Download our free BCG cover letter template →
Step 2
Online Assessments
Before interviews, most candidates complete BCG's online assessments: the Consulting Career Assessment (CCA) (2–3 hours, case-style problem solving + motivational questions), the Pymetrics Test (25-min neuroscience-based game), and/or the HireQuotient Assessment. These are scored separately from your interviews and can screen candidates out early — prepare for them in advance.
Step 3
First Round: 2 x 30-min interviews
Two back-to-back interviews with consultants or project leaders. Each includes a candidate-led case and 10–15 minutes of fit questions.
Step 4
Final Round: 2–3 x partner interviews
Partner-led interviews follow the same format but with deeper probing on logic and business judgment.
Step 5
Offer & Deadline
Offers are typically extended within 1–2 weeks of the final round. Deadlines vary by cohort and region.

💼 Case interview format

BCG uses candidate-led cases, meaning you drive the structure from the start. After receiving the prompt, take a moment to organize your thoughts, then outline your framework before digging into analysis. This rewards candidates who think independently and communicate a clear, logical approach under pressure.

  • Take 30–60 seconds to structure before speaking; BCG interviewers expect a deliberate, organized opening.
  • Customize your framework to the specific case rather than reciting a memorized structure.
  • Synthesize frequently; pause at key moments to summarize where you are and what you have learned.
  • Math fluency matters. Practice mental math daily so calculations feel effortless on the day.
Case Prep tip: Our BCG cases are built in the candidate-led format. Each includes a structured debrief so you can self-assess and improve between sessions.

🤝 Fit & behavioral

BCG's fit questions are woven throughout the interview rather than isolated in a separate block. Interviewers assess leadership, motivation for consulting, and specifically why BCG. They are also evaluating coachability: how you respond when challenged.

  • Prepare a clear, compelling answer to "Why BCG?" that goes beyond rankings; reference specific practice areas, culture, or people you have spoken with.
  • Use the STAR format for behavioral stories but keep them concise; interviewers move fast.
  • Be ready to discuss your resume in depth. Any bullet point is fair game for a follow-up.

✓ What interviewers look for

BCG interviewers evaluate both analytical skill and intellectual personality. They want to see someone they would enjoy working with on a client engagement.

  • Structured thinking: can you frame a complex, ambiguous problem in a clear, logical way from the start?
  • Hypothesis-driven approach: do you form a directional view early and test it, rather than boiling the ocean?
  • Intellectual curiosity: do you ask smart, probing questions when given new information?
  • Communication clarity: can you explain your reasoning succinctly, especially under pushback?
