The eligibility bar is technical, not general

The Turnaround and Restructuring Summer Analyst posting for June 2027 requires a bachelor's or non-MBA masters with an expected graduation date between December 2027 and August 2028, enrollment in an Economics, Accounting, Finance or related degree program, and at least two completed college-level courses in finance, accounting or economics such as Corporate Finance, Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Microeconomics or Macroeconomics.3

Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint is required, including formulas, data analysis tools and structured presentations.3 Prior cycle postings also listed working knowledge of data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau or Alteryx as preferred.4

If you are a liberal arts major targeting generalist strategy, this is not your firm. If you are a finance or accounting student who wants consulting exposure without going into banking, it is one of the better fits available.

What the work actually is

The New York undergraduate program is a 10-week internship with options to focus on either bankruptcy case management services or restructuring advisory.1 Restructuring advisory stewards clients through their most urgent situations.1

AlixPartners has advised management, investors and creditors on many of the largest and most high-profile bankruptcies and restructurings over the past 40 years, including Enron, General Motors and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, with more recent engagements including Bed Bath & Beyond, Party City and Pacific Gas and Electric.4

The firm describes working in small, highly qualified teams with specific industry and functional expertise, operating at pace and moving quickly from analysis to implementation.5 Postings note a willingness to work outside normal US business hours as unique project needs arise.4

Three rounds, and an analytical assessment

The AlixPartners interview process spans three rounds of case and fit interviews plus an online analytical assessment, and takes two to three months from application to offer.8

The reported sequence is a 30 to 40 minute recruiter screen on resume and fit, then a 45 minute case interview with a consultant, then a third round of two or three case interviews with senior directors.8 Cases lean toward restructuring and performance improvement, so financial reasoning matters more than at most firms.8

Two to three months is a long runway. If you submit by August 30, plan for a process that could still be running in November.

Risk Advisory runs several separate deadlines

AlixPartners has three Risk Advisory internships, each with a different deadline.9 There is also a separate Data Scientist Summer Internship requiring a master's in Business Analytics, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics or a related field, plus SQL proficiency.10

The MBA route is a separate calendar

The Turnaround and Restructuring MBA Analyst Intern role targets first year MBA candidates, and in the prior cycle applications closed November 16 with a stated salary range of $30,000 to $35,000 for the internship.2 Expect a similar November window this cycle.

Note the gap. The undergraduate deadline is August 30 and the MBA deadline is roughly eleven weeks later. If you are advising or comparing, do not read one date as applying to both.

Conversion and next steps

Following completion of the internship, successful candidates may receive a full-time offer as a Business Analyst.1 AlixPartners operates a hybrid work model combining in-person time at client sites or offices with remote working.3

One planning note for future cycles: independent recruiting timelines expect AlixPartners to post 2027 summer analyst applications across an August to December 2026 window, which is wider than the single August 30 date suggests.6 Roles surface at different times by practice, so checking back is worthwhile.
