KPMG application deadlines 2027: Audit and Tax open first, Advisory follows in September

By case-prep.com Updated August 8, 2026 8 min read Reviewed each cycle
The short answer

KPMG publishes no single national deadline. It recruits on a rolling basis and limits you to two active applications.2 The summer 2027 core window runs August to October 2026, with Audit and Tax posting first and Advisory following in early September.13 Management Consulted projects Audit, Tax and Advisory internship deadlines around October 2026.4

Two active applications, and the window is open now

KPMG limits candidates to two active applications at a time.2 Review is rolling inside the window, so week-one applications meet the most open seats and the widest office choice.1 The summer 2027 window is live in the August to October 2026 period, which means now.1

Every row is projected from the prior cycle rather than published by KPMG.4 The firm posts dates on individual role listings on its Early Careers site, where you can filter by office location and service area.3

What the prior cycle actually looked like

The clearest guide to KPMG's calendar is what it did last year. Audit and Tax positions opened on August 14, with additional opportunities including Advisory internship and full-time roles expected to post on September 4, and new positions continuing to be added on a rolling basis.3

Audit and Tax first, Advisory about three weeks later, then a steady drip of new postings. If your track has not appeared yet, it may simply not have posted.

That staggering matters if you are targeting Advisory, which is the track most consulting candidates want. Checking once in mid August and concluding nothing is open would be a mistake, because your roles were never scheduled to be live yet.

Looking further out, summer 2028 applications are expected to open around August to September 2027, with Audit first, Tax alongside it and Advisory following in early September.1

Rolling review inside a window

KPMG recruits on a rolling basis.2 Review happens continuously inside the window, so week-one applications meet the most open seats and the widest office choice.1

This produces the same dynamic as the other Big 4 firms but with an extra constraint. Because you only get two active applications, you cannot compensate for a late submission by applying more widely. Timing and track selection are the two levers, and you have limited room on both.

Office choice is a long-term decision

KPMG's own intern postings tell candidates to apply to the location where they want to build their life and career long term.6 The internship is designed to convert strong interns into full-time roles in the same geography.2

Read that as a genuine constraint rather than boilerplate. Picking an office because it looks less competitive can commit you to a city for the start of your career.

The application itself is short

KPMG says internship applications take about ten minutes and require a resume plus an unofficial transcript for current students or recent graduates.2 No cover letter is mentioned as part of the standard requirement.

A ten minute application with rolling review and a two application cap produces a specific piece of advice: the constraint is not effort, it is timing and choice. There is no reason to be late, and every reason to have decided your two tracks in advance.

Advisory is the competitive track

Rolling offers mean interviews follow within weeks

KPMG's process runs an online assessment, then a behavioral video or first-round interview, then a final round or Super Day with managers and partners, with offers typically rolling out within about two weeks of the interview. Apply in September and you could be interviewing in October. Our case library has full cases with exhibits and worked solutions.

The interview sequence

The rolling steps are an online assessment, then a behavioral video or first-round interview, then a final round or Super Day with managers and partners.1 Offers typically roll out within about two weeks of the interview.1

That two week turnaround cuts both ways. It is fast if you are strong, and it means seats are being taken continuously by candidates who applied ahead of you.

How selective it actually is

KPMG hired roughly 3,900 interns from more than 50,000 applications in its reported 2021 to 2022 cycle, an acceptance rate near 8 percent.1 That is far more accessible than MBB, and considerably tighter than the "Big 4 is a safety" framing suggests.

Advisory roles across the Big 4 are described as the most competitive spots, drawing a pool that skews toward finance and strategy majors rather than pure accounting students.5 If Advisory is your target, you are competing in the tightest part of an already selective program.

The sophomore route

Embark Scholars is KPMG's early identification program, tapping sophomores 18 to 24 months ahead of the internship.1 It runs in a CPA track and a technology track, both expected February 2027.4 Rise, for freshmen and sophomores, sits in the same February window.4

Sophomores can pursue both paths in parallel: apply to Embark Scholars early identification and attend KPMG's Discover and Rise leadership events, while treating the summer 2027 core window as a live shot.1

Writing the KPMG cover letter

KPMG's standard application does not require one, but a strong letter helps for networked applications and Advisory roles. Our guide covers structure and includes a downloadable template.

One eligibility gate to check

Some KPMG positions require applicants to be authorized to work in the US without employment-based visa sponsorship.3 This varies by posting rather than applying across the board, so read the specific role.

Audit intern postings also note that candidates must have additional academic credits to complete after the internship, or CPA eligibility requirements outstanding.6 One Summer 2027 Audit Intern posting set graduation dates between May 2027 and September 2028.7

What to do this week

  1. Decide your two applications. Service line and office. This is the binding constraint.
  2. Check the Early Careers site now and filter by office and service area. Audit and Tax post first.
  3. If you want Advisory, check again in early September. It posted about three weeks after Audit last cycle.
  4. Submit in week one of your track opening. Rolling review inside the window means early applicants see the most seats.
  5. Choose your office as a long-term decision. The internship converts to full time in the same geography.
  6. Have interview prep ready by October. Offers roll within about two weeks of interviewing.
