KPMG sits at the lower end of the Big 4 consulting pay range, roughly 5 to 10 percent below Deloitte and PwC and 15 to 25 percent below MBB. A core US Associate starts near $92,500 all in, the lowest Big 4 undergraduate entry point on this site. The offsetting factor is Deal Advisory & Strategy, the transactions and strategy arm, which pays 20 to 25 percent more at every level and widens the gap as you climb. The explorer below opens on core KPMG Advisory.
KPMG runs seven bands from Associate to Partner, with no stock at any level because the firm is a private partnership. This page opens on core KPMG Advisory. Switch the practice selector to price the same rung inside Deal Advisory and Strategy.
KPMG is the smallest of the Big 4 by revenue and it prices its core consulting accordingly. Four things decide what lands in your offer letter, and the first is which of the two practices you are actually joining.
Deal Advisory and Strategy pays roughly 20 to 25 percent above core KPMG Advisory at every level. At post-MBA entry the difference is concrete: a Senior Associate joining core Advisory lands at $150,000 to $160,000 all-in in year one, while the same hire in Deal Advisory and Strategy reaches $185,000 to $200,000. The gap does not stay constant, it grows at every level above that one. The strategy practice is also smaller, screens harder with a case-based interview closer to MBB style, and offers a slightly accelerated partner path of 10 to 12 years post-MBA against 11 to 14 on the core track. If you are optimising for compensation, this choice matters more than anything else on this page.
Core KPMG Advisory pays roughly 15 to 25 percent below MBB and around 5 to 10 percent below Deloitte and PwC at most levels, placing it alongside core EY at the lower end of the Big 4 range. That is a positioning choice rather than an accident. KPMG is the smallest of the Big 4 by revenue and it competes on breadth of entry, volume of hiring and a genuinely wide internal mobility map rather than on headline pay. The compensating argument is that the gap narrows in percentage terms as you climb, and that Deal Advisory and Strategy closes most of it outright.
KPMG is a private partnership, not a listed company, so there are no RSUs or stock options anywhere on the ladder. From Associate through Senior Manager and Director your entire package is base salary plus a cash bonus. Equity participation begins at Managing Director, and full partnership carries a capital buy-in, which is why Partner compensation is a profit share with no clean public median. This is the opposite of Accenture, where listed shares vest from Manager upward, and it makes a KPMG offer simpler to compare because there is no vesting schedule to value.
KPMG runs seven bands: Associate, Senior Associate, Manager, Senior Manager, Director, Managing Director, then Partner. Two things make this confusing. Levels.fyi normalises the track into Analyst, Consultant and Senior Consultant, so the same person appears under different labels depending on where you look, and it folds Director and Managing Director into a single Associate Partner band. Separately, Audit and Tax run the same lower rungs but lean less on the Director title than Advisory does. Anchor on the named Advisory band and the scope you would own, not on the title as it appears on a comparison site.
Core KPMG Advisory total compensation at the two entry points and at Manager, in local currency. Add roughly 25 percent for Deal Advisory and Strategy at every level.

Only the US row rests on substantial submission volume. The UK and India rows are marked partly reported because both practices are large and reasonably well covered, though KPMG publishes no bands anywhere. Everything else is indexed from the US ladder against local market rates and should be used for relative comparison only. The final column shows what the Deal Advisory and Strategy premium does to the same rung, which is the most useful column on this table.
Post-MBA entry, US, total first-year compensation. Core practices and strategy arms shown separately, because they are different jobs on different scales.
| Firm and practice | Post-MBA total | Tier | Gap to MBB |
|---|---|---|---|
| McKinsey (MBB) | $262,000 | MBB | Reference |
| Monitor Deloitte | $253,000 | Big 4 strategy | 3% below |
| Strategy& (PwC) | $250,000 | Big 4 strategy | 5% below |
| EY-Parthenon | $212,000 | Big 4 strategy | 19% below |
| KPMG Deal Advisory & Strategy | $187,000 | Big 4 strategy | 29% below |
| PwC Consulting | $170,000 | Big 4 core | 35% below |
| EY Consulting | $166,000 | Big 4 core | 37% below |
| KPMG Advisory | $150,000 | Big 4 core | 43% below |
KPMG anchors the bottom of both Big 4 tiers on our figures, and it is worth being direct about that rather than dressing it up. The Big 4 pay order in 2026 runs Monitor Deloitte, Strategy& and EY-Parthenon at the strategy tier, then Deloitte and PwC ahead of EY and KPMG at the core tier. Two things the table does not capture. Deal Advisory and Strategy is a genuinely smaller and more selective practice than its Big 4 equivalents, so the comparison is partly a scale effect rather than a quality one. And KPMG's internal mobility across Audit, Tax, Deal Advisory and Consulting is unusually wide, which has real option value for someone who does not yet know which of those they want. See the Deloitte, PwC, EY and McKinsey pages for those ladders.
KPMG runs multi-round interviews combining case and behavioural questions. Core Advisory leans behavioural with a lighter case, so prepare for the practice you are actually applying through.
KPMG publishes no salary bands and is a private partnership, so nothing above Senior Manager is firm-stated. The junior and mid levels are well covered; the senior end genuinely is not, and the public datasets disagree about what the levels are even called.
Two structural cautions. First, Levels.fyi folds Director and Managing Director into one Associate Partner band with only a directional figure near $301,000, so our separate figures for those two levels are interpolations rather than reported medians. Second, Partner compensation is an equity profit share funded by a capital buy-in, which means there is no median to report at all and any precise Partner number you see anywhere, including ours, is an estimate.
A US Associate on the core Advisory track earns roughly $75,000 base plus a target bonus near $10,000 and a signing bonus of $5,000 to $10,000, for total first-year compensation around $92,500. Levels.fyi reports approximately $97,000 at this level. Inside Deal Advisory and Strategy the equivalent total is nearer $106,000. This is the lowest Big 4 undergraduate entry point on our salary pages.
Deal Advisory and Strategy is KPMG's strategy and transactions practice, covering commercial due diligence, deal strategy and value creation. It pays roughly 20 to 25 percent above core Advisory at every level, and the gap widens as you climb. At post-MBA entry that means $185,000 to $200,000 against $150,000 to $160,000. It also screens harder with a case-based interview and offers a slightly faster partner path of 10 to 12 years post-MBA.
Seven bands: Associate, Senior Associate, Manager, Senior Manager, Director, Managing Director, then Partner. Promotions run every two to three years at the junior levels and slow to four to five years from Manager upward. Associate to Partner takes roughly 14 to 18 years, or 11 to 14 for post-MBA entrants, and around 3 to 7 percent of entering Associates reach Partner.
Yes, slightly. Core KPMG Advisory sits at the lower end of the Big 4 core tier alongside core EY, roughly 5 to 10 percent below Deloitte and PwC at most levels and 15 to 25 percent below MBB. At the strategy tier, Deal Advisory and Strategy sits behind Monitor Deloitte, Strategy& and EY-Parthenon. KPMG is the smallest of the Big 4 by revenue and competes on breadth of entry and internal mobility rather than headline pay.
No stock at any level, because KPMG is a private partnership rather than a listed company. From Associate through Director your package is base salary plus a cash bonus only, with no RSUs or options. Equity participation begins at Managing Director, and full partnership carries a capital buy-in, which is why Partner compensation is a profit share with no clean public median.
Because the sites normalise them. Levels.fyi maps KPMG's Associate and Senior Associate onto Analyst, Consultant and Senior Consultant, and folds Director and Managing Director into a single Associate Partner band. KPMG's own Advisory titles are the seven bands listed above. Audit and Tax also run the same lower rungs but lean less on the Director title, so anchor on the named Advisory band and the scope you would own.
There is room, particularly for experienced hires with relevant qualifications, and more than at MBB because KPMG hires at high volume across many practices without a single cohort-wide band. Campus offers are the most standardised. The highest-leverage negotiation is not the number inside a band but which practice and which level you enter at, given the 20 to 25 percent Deal Advisory and Strategy premium.
